Explore The Local Area

Situated in The Silverdale & Arnside AONB, there are plenty of local walks to enjoy within the hamlet of Haverbrack and the surrounding area.

Dallam Tower & Deer Park

Dallam Tower has an 18th-century deer park of 75 hectares with 10 hectares of woodland. Other features include a natural rock garden and a water garden. While the house is private, the park is open to the general public. It’s a great destination for a relaxed walk and generally much quieter than the central Lakes.

The deer park dates back to the 18th century, and is home to a sizeable herd of fallow deer. They’re mellow and very accustomed to people and you’re guaranteed to spot some.

The park is on private land, so stick to waymarked trails. These run the length of the park, following the River Bela. It’s an out-and-back walk from either direction if you stay inside the park, so you can make the walk as long or short as you like.

Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve

The popular nature reserve is home to the largest reed bed in north-west England. This sweeping expanse provides shelter to a spectacular range of wildlife including otters, bearded tits, bitterns, marsh harriers, egrets and red deer.

Set against the shores of the nearby Morecambe Bay, this Lancashire nature reserve is a wetland paradise where wild creatures roam reedbeds, mudflats, coastal marsh and saltwater lagoons.

Other local places to enjoy

Whether you want to explore Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve, home to the rare The Duke of Burgundy and high brown fritillary butterflies, play a round of golf at Silverdale Golf Club, walk on the sands at Arnside and enjoy fish & chips on the promenade, or visit Leighton Hall, the ancestral home of the world-renowned Gillow furniture family, the local area has plenty of places to explore.

You can even try walking the Beetham ‘Fairy Steps’, a flight of stone steps where the narrow passage squeezes between two sheer rock faces via a flight of natural stone stairs. It’s so called because of a legend….if you climb or descend the steps without touching the limestone sides of the narrow gully, the fairies will grant your wish.
